For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like Israel (TLV:ILCO). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

Israel's Improving Profits

Israel has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. To the delight of shareholders, Israel's EPS soared from US$64.91 to US$95.95, over the last year. That's a impressive gain of 48%.

It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. The good news is that Israel is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 9.0 percentage points to 33%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

So it is good to see that Israel insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. This should keep them focused on creating long term value for shareholders.

Should You Add Israel To Your Watchlist?

This EPS growth rate is something the company should be proud of, and so it's no surprise that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares.
