Market Participants Recognise Gogox Holdings Limited's (HKG:2246) Revenues Pushing Shares 129% Higher

Gogox Holdings Limited (HKG:2246) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 129% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 66% share price drop in the last twelve months.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Gogox Holdings' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.5x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Hong Kong's Logistics industry is similar at about 0.3x. However, investors might be overlooking a clear opportunity or potential setback if there is no rational basis for the P/S.

How Has Gogox Holdings Performed Recently?

For example, consider that Gogox Holdings' financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. Perhaps investors believe the recent revenue performance is enough to keep in line with the industry, which is keeping the P/S from dropping off. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

Gogox Holdings' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 2.6%. However, a few very strong years before that means that it was still able to grow revenue by an impressive 42% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has generally done a very good job of growing revenue over that time, even though it had some hiccups along the way.

It's interesting to note that the rest of the industry is similarly expected to grow by 13% over the next year, which is fairly even with the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this information, we can see why Gogox Holdings is trading at a fairly similar P/S to the industry. It seems most investors are expecting to see average growth rates continue into the future and are only willing to pay a moderate amount for the stock.

The Final Word

Gogox Holdings' stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

It appears to us that Gogox Holdings maintains its moderate P/S off the back of its recent three-year growth being in line with the wider industry forecast. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident future revenue won't throw up any surprises. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price moving strongly in either direction in the near future under these circumstances.

Having said that, be aware Gogox Holdings is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 2 of those make us uncomfortable.
