Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Vodatel Networks Holdings (HKG:8033). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

Vodatel Networks Holdings's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. Impressively, Vodatel Networks Holdings has grown EPS by 32% per year, compound, in the last three years. As a general rule, we'd say that if a company can keep up that sort of growth, shareholders will be smiling.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Vodatel Networks Holdings's EBIT margins have actually improved by 2.5 percentage points in the last year, to reach 1.9%, but, on the flip side, revenue was down 20%. That's not ideal.

Since Vodatel Networks Holdings is no giant, with a market capitalization of HK$110m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.

Are Vodatel Networks Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Vodatel Networks Holdings insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. Indeed, with a collective holding of 62%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. Valued at only HK$110m Vodatel Networks Holdings is really small for a listed company. That means insiders only have HK$69m worth of shares, despite the large proportional holding. That might not be a huge sum but it should be enough to keep insiders motivated!

Should You Add Vodatel Networks Holdings To Your Watchlist?

You can't deny that Vodatel Networks Holdings has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. Further, the high level of insider ownership impresses me, and suggests that I'm not the only one who appreciates the EPS growth. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. However, before you get too excited we've discovered 4 warning signs for Vodatel Networks Holdings (1 can't be ignored!) that you should be aware of.
