Bullish IRC Limited (HKG:1029) investors are yet to receive a pay off on their US$151m bet
The recent 11% drop in IRC Limited's (HKG:1029) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased US$151m worth of stock at an average buy price of US$0.11 over the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only US$141m.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

IRC Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Marina Kolesnikova for HK$151m worth of shares, at about HK$0.11 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than HK$0.099 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Marina Kolesnikova was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership Of IRC
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that IRC insiders own 22% of the company, worth about HK$187m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At IRC Tell Us?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like IRC insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Every company has risks, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for IRC you should know about.
