Here's Why I Think Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings (HKG:6833) Is An Interesting Stock

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings (HKG:6833). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings's Improving Profits

In a capitalist society capital chases profits, and that means share prices tend rise with earnings per share (EPS). So like the hint of a smile on a face that I love, growing EPS generally makes me look twice. It is therefore awe-striking that Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings's EPS went from CN¥0.014 to CN¥0.07 in just one year. When you see earnings grow that quickly, it often means good things ahead for the company. Could this be a sign that the business has reached an inflection point?

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 74% to CN¥2.0b. That's a real positive.

Are Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings insiders own a meaningful share of the business. In fact, they own 69% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. With that sort of holding, insiders have about CN¥681m riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!

Should You Add Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings To Your Watchlist?

Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind Sinco Pharmaceuticals Holdings is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. What about risks?
