Derwent London's (LON:DLN) Stock Price Has Reduced 22% In The Past Year
While it may not be enough for some shareholders, we think it is good to see the Derwent London Plc (LON:DLN) share price up 12% in a single quarter. But in truth the last year hasn't been good for the share price. The cold reality is that the stock has dropped 22% in one year, under-performing the market.

To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
Unhappily, Derwent London had to report a 36% decline in EPS over the last year. This fall in the EPS is significantly worse than the 22% the share price fall. So despite the weak per-share profits, some investors are probably relieved the situation wasn't more difficult.

We consider it positive that insiders have made significant purchases in the last year. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. A Different Perspective
We regret to report that Derwent London shareholders are down 21% for the year (even including dividends). Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 4.2%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 3% per year over half a decade. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 4 warning signs with Derwent London , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.
