While shareholders of Futura Medical (LON:FUM) are in the black over 1 year, those who bought a week ago aren't so fortunate
The Futura Medical plc (LON:FUM) share price has had a bad week, falling 12%. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last year have been respectable. Indeed the stock is up 11% over twelve months, compared to a market return of about 10%.
While the stock has fallen 12% this week, it's worth focusing on the longer term and seeing if the stocks historical returns have been driven by the underlying fundamentals.

Futura Medical isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
In the last year Futura Medical saw its revenue grow by 393%. That's stonking growth even when compared to other loss-making stocks. The solid 11% share price gain goes down pretty well, but it's not necessarily as good as you might expect given the top notch revenue growth. So quite frankly it could be a good time to investigate Futura Medical in some detail. Since we evolved from monkeys, we think in linear terms by nature. So if growth goes exponential, opportunity may exist for the enlightened.

A Different Perspective
Futura Medical provided a TSR of 11% over the year. That's fairly close to the broader market return. Most would be happy with a gain, and it helps that the year's return is actually better than the average return over five years, which was 1.7%. Even if the share price growth slows down from here, there's a good chance that this is business worth watching in the long term. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Consider risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for Futura Medical you should know about.
