Insiders were net buyers of Caledonia Investments Plc's (LON:CLDN ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders bought more stock than they sold.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Caledonia Investments

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Non-Executive Director William Wyatt for UK£556k worth of shares, at about UK£35.45 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of UK£35.55 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. William Wyatt was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

William Wyatt purchased 23.36k shares over the year. The average price per share was UK£34.93. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
