Ricardo Insider Purchases Yet To Pay Off Regardless Of Recent Strength
Insiders who purchased UK£90.3k worth of Ricardo plc (LON:RCDO) shares over the past year recouped some of their losses after price gained 11% last week. The purchase, however, has proven to be a pricey bet, with losses currently totalling UK£26k.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
Ricardo Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Group CEO & Director Graham Ritchie bought UK£50k worth of shares at a price of UK£4.05 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of UK£2.90. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid UK£90k for 22.30k shares. But they sold 108.00 shares for UK£464. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Ricardo insiders. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Our data isn't picking up on much insider ownership at Ricardo, though insiders do hold about UK£413k worth of shares. This level of insider ownership is notably low, and not very encouraging.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Ricardo Tell Us?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. The transactions are fine but it'd be more encouraging if Ricardo insiders bought more shares in the company. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
