If You Had Bought Artprice.com's (EPA:PRC) Shares Three Years Ago You Would Be Down 56%
If you are building a properly diversified stock portfolio, the chances are some of your picks will perform badly. But long term Artprice.com (EPA:PRC) shareholders have had a particularly rough ride in the last three year. Unfortunately, they have held through a 56% decline in the share price in that time. The good news is that the stock is up 3.4% in the last week.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
Although the share price is down over three years, Artprice.com actually managed to grow EPS by 12% per year in that time. This is quite a puzzle, and suggests there might be something temporarily buoying the share price. Alternatively, growth expectations may have been unreasonable in the past.
It's worth taking a look at other metrics, because the EPS growth doesn't seem to match with the falling share price.
Revenue is actually up 4.3% over the three years, so the share price drop doesn't seem to hinge on revenue, either. It's probably worth investigating Artprice.com further; while we may be missing something on this analysis, there might also be an opportunity.

A Different Perspective
Artprice.com shareholders are up 35% for the year. But that return falls short of the market. But at least that's still a gain! Over five years the TSR has been a reduction of 6% per year, over five years. So this might be a sign the business has turned its fortunes around. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. To that end, you should be aware of the 1 warning sign we've spotted with Artprice.com .
