RTX (CPSE:RTX) Margin Gains Clash With Rich Valuation And Softer EPS

Simply Wall St

RTX stock closed at DKK102.5 heading into this earnings print after a flat 90 day stretch, and the fresh numbers tell a more charged story. The headline is margin. Management reported a gross margin of 54.8% and roughly 35% growth in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation in the first nine months, which supported an upgraded full year profit outlook.

For short term traders the immediate question is whether that margin strength justifies RTX’s 71.1x trailing P/E. Long term holders may focus on whether the mix shift into Healthcare and ProAudio can keep that profitability trend intact over several years.

Is RTX a mispriced margin story, or is it simply carrying an expensive P/E that recent profits cannot support? Compare the rich multiple, trailing earnings, and DCF fair value in the valuation analysis for RTX.

RTX margin story backed by mix and cash

For investors leaning optimistic, RTX gives some support. Revenue for the first nine months grew at about 8% in constant currency while gross margin reached 54.8%, helped by a higher share of Healthcare and ProAudio. EBITDA for the period rose about 35% and full year profit guidance moved higher, which points to improving earnings power on a relatively stable top line. A DKK 40m share buyback funded from cash of DKK 135m, above the stated target range, also signals a balance sheet that currently looks comfortable.

Short term execution risks still visible at RTX

The cautious view also finds material support. Q3 net income excluding extra items fell about 16% year on year and basic EPS slipped about 8%, even with stronger margins. Management flagged component shortages and order slippage between quarters, and also needs DKK 170m to DKK 200m revenue in Q4 to reach the upgraded guidance. That is achievable based on history but leaves little room for further disruption. The heavier R&D investment also needs to convert into sustained Enterprise, Healthcare and ProAudio demand.

With RTX showing a 2% net margin, negative trailing earnings and a 71.1x P/E, it is reasonable to question how robust the balance sheet really is. Check the full liquidity, debt and cash runway breakdown in the financial health analysis of RTX stock.
