EVE Energy Co., Ltd. (SZSE:300014) just released its latest quarterly report and things are not looking great. Results look to have been somewhat negative - revenue fell 3.5% short of analyst estimates at CN¥12b, and statutory earnings of CN¥0.52 per share missed forecasts by 8.8%. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. We thought readers would find it interesting to see the analysts latest (statutory) post-earnings forecasts for next year.

After the latest results, the 19 analysts covering EVE Energy are now predicting revenues of CN¥55.5b in 2024. If met, this would reflect a solid 17% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to expand 18% to CN¥2.34. Before this earnings report, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of CN¥56.4b and earnings per share (EPS) of CN¥2.41 in 2024. The analysts seem to have become a little more negative on the business after the latest results, given the small dip in their earnings per share numbers for next year.

The consensus price target held steady at CN¥44.92, with the analysts seemingly voting that their lower forecast earnings are not expected to lead to a lower stock price in the foreseeable future. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values EVE Energy at CN¥67.00 per share, while the most bearish prices it at CN¥20.00. So we wouldn't be assigning too much credibility to analyst price targets in this case, because there are clearly some widely different views on what kind of performance this business can generate. With this in mind, we wouldn't rely too heavily the consensus price target, as it is just an average and analysts clearly have some deeply divergent views on the business.

These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the EVE Energy's past performance and to peers in the same industry. The period to the end of 2024 brings more of the same, according to the analysts, with revenue forecast to display 37% growth on an annualised basis. That is in line with its 45% annual growth over the past five years. Compare this with the broader industry, which analyst estimates (in aggregate) suggest will see revenues grow 16% annually. So although EVE Energy is expected to maintain its revenue growth rate, it's definitely expected to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that the analysts downgraded their earnings per share estimates, showing that there has been a clear decline in sentiment following these results. Happily, there were no major changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow faster than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have estimates - from multiple EVE Energy analysts - going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
