If you're not sure where to start when looking for the next multi-bagger, there are a few key trends you should keep an eye out for. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. That's why when we briefly looked at Movida Participações' (BVMF:MOVI3) ROCE trend, we were pretty happy with what we saw.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Movida Participações:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.11 = R$1.9b ÷ (R$22b - R$3.9b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2023).
Thus, Movida Participações has an ROCE of 11%. By itself that's a normal return on capital and it's in line with the industry's average returns of 11%.

In the above chart we have measured Movida Participações' prior ROCE against its prior performance, but the future is arguably more important. If you'd like, you can check out the forecasts from the analysts covering Movida Participações here for free.
The Trend Of ROCE
The trend of ROCE doesn't stand out much, but returns on a whole are decent. The company has employed 392% more capital in the last five years, and the returns on that capital have remained stable at 11%. Since 11% is a moderate ROCE though, it's good to see a business can continue to reinvest at these decent rates of return. Stable returns in this ballpark can be unexciting, but if they can be maintained over the long run, they often provide nice rewards to shareholders.
In Conclusion...
The main thing to remember is that Movida Participações has proven its ability to continually reinvest at respectable rates of return. And the stock has followed suit returning a meaningful 88% to shareholders over the last five years. So even though the stock might be more "expensive" than it was before, we think the strong fundamentals warrant this stock for further research.
Movida Participações does come with some risks though, we found 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those makes us a bit uncomfortable...
