Here's Why Suzano (BVMF:SUZB3) Has Caught The Eye Of Investors
Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Suzano (BVMF:SUZB3). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.
Our analysis indicates that SUZB3 is potentially undervalued!
Suzano's Improving Profits
Over the last three years, Suzano has grown earnings per share (EPS) at as impressive rate from a relatively low point, resulting in a three year percentage growth rate that isn't particularly indicative of expected future performance. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Suzano's EPS skyrocketed from R$9.07 to R$13.93, in just one year; a result that's bound to bring a smile to shareholders. That's a commendable gain of 54%.
It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. EBIT margins for Suzano remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 25% to R$47b. That's a real positive.

While we live in the present moment, there's little doubt that the future matters most in the investment decision process. So why not check this interactive chart depicting future EPS estimates, for Suzano?
Are Suzano Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Owing to the size of Suzano, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a significant proportion of the company. But thanks to their investment in the company, it's pleasing to see that there are still incentives to align their actions with the shareholders. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth R$11b. This totals to 15% of shares in the company. Enough to lead management's decision making process down a path that brings the most benefit to shareholders. Looking very optimistic for investors.
Is Suzano Worth Keeping An Eye On?
You can't deny that Suzano has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. This EPS growth rate is something the company should be proud of, and so it's no surprise that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. The growth and insider confidence is looked upon well and so it's worthwhile to investigate further with a view to discern the stock's true value. It is worth noting though that we have found 3 warning signs for Suzano (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you need to take into consideration.
There's always the possibility of doing well buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But for those who consider these important metrics, we encourage you to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
