Should You Be Adding Raia Drogasil (BVMF:RADL3) To Your Watchlist Today?
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Raia Drogasil (BVMF:RADL3). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Quickly Is Raia Drogasil Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. Raia Drogasil managed to grow EPS by 13% per year, over three years. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Raia Drogasil maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 20% to R$23b. That's progress.

While we live in the present moment at all times, there's no doubt in my mind that the future matters more than the past. So why not check this interactive chart depicting future EPS estimates, for Raia Drogasil?
Are Raia Drogasil Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a R$38b company like Raia Drogasil. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth R$6.9b. That equates to 18% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. Very encouraging.
Does Raia Drogasil Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
One important encouraging feature of Raia Drogasil is that it is growing profits. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Of course, profit growth is one thing but it's even better if Raia Drogasil is receiving high returns on equity, since that should imply it can keep growing without much need for capital. Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
