Should You Be Adding Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC) To Your Watchlist Today?
Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Quickly Is Charter Hall Group Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Who among us would not applaud Charter Hall Group's stratospheric annual EPS growth of 47%, compound, over the last three years? While that sort of growth rate isn't sustainable for long, it certainly catches my attention; like a crow with a sparkly stone.
I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Not all of Charter Hall Group's revenue this year is revenue from operations, so keep in mind the revenue and margin numbers I've used might not be the best representation of the underlying business. Charter Hall Group shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 47% to 63%, and revenue is growing. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Charter Hall Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Like standing at the lookout, surveying the horizon at sunrise, insider buying, for some investors, sparks joy. Because oftentimes, the purchase of stock is a sign that the buyer views it as undervalued. Of course, we can never be sure what insiders are thinking, we can only judge their actions.
We haven't seen any insiders selling Charter Hall Group shares, in the last year. So it's definitely nice that Independent Non-Executive Chairman David Clarke bought AU$67k worth of shares at an average price of around AU$16.83.
The good news, alongside the insider buying, for Charter Hall Group bulls is that insiders (collectively) have a meaningful investment in the stock. To be specific, they have AU$31m worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Even though that's only about 0.4% of the company, it's enough money to indicate alignment between the leaders of the business and ordinary shareholders.
Is Charter Hall Group Worth Keeping An Eye On?
Charter Hall Group's earnings per share growth have been levitating higher, like a mountain goat scaling the Alps. The incing on the cake is that insiders own a large chunk of the company and one has even been buying more shares. Because of the potential that it has reached an inflection point, I'd suggest Charter Hall Group belongs on the top of your watchlist. You should always think about risks though. Case in point, we've spotted 1 warning sign for Charter Hall Group you should be aware of.
The good news is that Charter Hall Group is not the only growth stock with insider buying. Here's a list of them... with insider buying in the last three months!
