Raiz Invest Limited's (ASX:RZI) Shares Leap 28% Yet They're Still Not Telling The Full Story
Raiz Invest Limited (ASX:RZI) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 28% gain in the last month alone. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 77%.
Although its price has surged higher, Raiz Invest's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 3.3x might still make it look like a buy right now compared to the Capital Markets industry in Australia, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios above 5.9x and even P/S above 18x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Raiz Invest's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Revenue has risen firmly for Raiz Invest recently, which is pleasing to see. Perhaps the market is expecting this acceptable revenue performance to take a dive, which has kept the P/S suppressed. Those who are bullish on Raiz Invest will be hoping that this isn't the case, so that they can pick up the stock at a lower valuation.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Raiz Invest's earnings, revenue and cash flow. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?
There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Raiz Invest's to be considered reasonable.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 18% last year. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 62% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.
Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 10% shows it's noticeably more attractive.
With this in mind, we find it intriguing that Raiz Invest's P/S isn't as high compared to that of its industry peers. It looks like most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.
The Key Takeaway
Despite Raiz Invest's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.
We're very surprised to see Raiz Invest currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. At least price risks look to be very low if recent medium-term revenue trends continue, but investors seem to think future revenue could see a lot of volatility.
