UBM Development AG (VIE:UBS) Analysts Just Trimmed Their Revenue Forecasts By 11%
Today is shaping up negative for UBM Development AG (VIE:UBS) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. This report focused on revenue estimates, and it looks as though the consensus view of the business has become substantially more conservative.
After the downgrade, the five analysts covering UBM Development are now predicting revenues of €306m in 2022. If met, this would reflect a solid 15% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to surge 29% to €4.68. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of €343m and earnings per share (EPS) of €4.64 in 2022. Indeed we can see that the consensus opinion has undergone some fundamental changes following the recent consensus updates, with a substantial drop in revenues and some minor tweaks to earnings numbers.
Check out our latest analysis for UBM Development
The average price target was steady at €52.84 even though revenue estimates declined; likely suggesting the analysts place a higher value on earnings. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. Currently, the most bullish analyst values UBM Development at €55.00 per share, while the most bearish prices it at €50.20. With such a narrow range of valuations, analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth.
Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. One thing stands out from these estimates, which is that UBM Development is forecast to grow faster in the future than it has in the past, with revenues expected to display 20% annualised growth until the end of 2022. If achieved, this would be a much better result than the 16% annual decline over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 1.5% per year. Not only are UBM Development's revenues expected to improve, it seems that the analysts are also expecting it to grow faster than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most obvious conclusion from this consensus update is that there's been no major change in the business' prospects in recent times, with analysts holding earnings per share steady, in line with previous estimates. Unfortunately, analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, although our data indicates revenues are expected to perform better than the wider market. Often, one downgrade can set off a daisy-chain of cuts, especially if an industry is in decline. So we wouldn't be surprised if the market became a lot more cautious on UBM Development after today.
Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for UBM Development going out to 2024, and you can see them free on our platform here.
