This Week In AI Chips - Revolutionizing AI Data Centers With Optical Solutions
Reviewed by Simply Wall St
Alchip Technologies and Ayar Labs have jointly introduced a co-packaged optics solution aimed at enhancing AI data center capabilities by addressing data movement bottlenecks impacting large AI infrastructures. Unveiled at the 2025 TSMC North America Open Innovation Platform Ecosystem Forum, this innovation promises to extend network connectivity beyond traditional rack limits, delivering ultra-high bandwidth, low latency, high radix, and improved energy efficiency for multi-rack AI clusters. This development stems from the limitations of traditional copper interconnects, which are increasingly inadequate for the growing demands of AI workloads. By integrating Ayar Labs' TeraPHY optical engines with Alchip's advanced packaging solutions, the new offering supports over 100 terabits per second of bandwidth and more than 256 optical ports per device. This collaboration aims to pioneer energy-efficient system architectures, supporting global AI proliferation.
