Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) Independent Director, Richard Neu, recently bought US$80k worth of stock, for US$13.52 per share. However, we do note that it only increased their holding by 5.4%, and it wasn't a huge purchase by absolute value, either.

Huntington Bancshares Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Daniel Neumeyer, sold US$822k worth of shares at a price of US$13.71 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$13.57. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 23.90k shares worth US$320k. On the other hand they divested 194720 shares, for US$2.7m. All up, insiders sold more shares in Huntington Bancshares than they bought, over the last year. Insider Ownership of Huntington Bancshares

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Huntington Bancshares insiders own about US$132m worth of shares (which is 0.9% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
