Possible Bearish Signals With Bid Insiders Disposing Stock
In the last year, many Bid Corporation Limited (JSE:BID) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Bid
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the CEO & Executive Director, Bernard Berson, sold R27m worth of shares at a price of R453 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of R431. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.
Bid insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Does Bid Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 0.3% of Bid shares, worth about R444m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Bid Tell Us?
The fact that there have been no Bid insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. While we feel good about high insider ownership of Bid, we can't say the same about the selling of shares. Of course, the future is what matters most.
