Not Many Are Piling Into MingZhu Logistics Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:YGMZ) Stock Yet As It Plummets 25%

MingZhu Logistics Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:YGMZ) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 25% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 66% share price decline.

After such a large drop in price, MingZhu Logistics Holdings may be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.1x, considering almost half of all companies in the Transportation industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.4x and even P/S higher than 5x aren't out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the reduced P/S.

What Does MingZhu Logistics Holdings' Recent Performance Look Like?

With revenue growth that's exceedingly strong of late, MingZhu Logistics Holdings has been doing very well. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The Low P/S Ratio?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like MingZhu Logistics Holdings' to be considered reasonable.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 61%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 284% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Comparing that to the industry, which is only predicted to deliver 8.3% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is stronger based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this information, we find it odd that MingZhu Logistics Holdings is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance has exceeded its limits and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.

The Final Word

The southerly movements of MingZhu Logistics Holdings' shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

We're very surprised to see MingZhu Logistics Holdings currently trading on a much lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. Potential investors that are sceptical over continued revenue performance may be preventing the P/S ratio from matching previous strong performance. It appears many are indeed anticipating revenue instability, because the persistence of these recent medium-term conditions would normally provide a boost to the share price.
