TE Connectivity Insiders Sell US$1.5m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
In the last year, many TE Connectivity Ltd. (NYSE:TEL) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

TE Connectivity Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the CFO, Executive VP & Executive Director, Heath Mitts, for US$1.2m worth of shares, at about US$123 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$127). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 25% of Heath Mitts's stake.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. TE Connectivity insiders own about US$68m worth of shares. That equates to 0.2% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
