The fact that multiple Mirion Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:MIR) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Mirion Technologies Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Group President of Technologies, Loic Eloy, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$787k worth of shares at a price of US$17.89 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$15.22). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Mirion Technologies insiders own 4.6% of the company, worth about US$146m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
