Insight Enterprises Insiders Sell US$5.1m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
Over the past year, many Insight Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:NSIT) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President, Joyce Mullen, sold US$2.0m worth of shares at a price of US$201 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$154. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Insight Enterprises insiders own 1.4% of the company, worth about US$69m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
