We Think Innoviz Technologies (NASDAQ:INVZ) Needs To Drive Business Growth Carefully
Just because a business does not make any money, does not mean that the stock will go down. For example, biotech and mining exploration companies often lose money for years before finding success with a new treatment or mineral discovery. Having said that, unprofitable companies are risky because they could potentially burn through all their cash and become distressed.
So should Innoviz Technologies (NASDAQ:INVZ) shareholders be worried about its cash burn? For the purpose of this article, we'll define cash burn as the amount of cash the company is spending each year to fund its growth (also called its negative free cash flow). The first step is to compare its cash burn with its cash reserves, to give us its 'cash runway'.
Does Innoviz Technologies Have A Long Cash Runway?
A company's cash runway is the amount of time it would take to burn through its cash reserves at its current cash burn rate. When Innoviz Technologies last reported its September 2025 balance sheet in November 2025, it had zero debt and cash worth US$74m. Looking at the last year, the company burnt through US$61m. So it had a cash runway of approximately 15 months from September 2025. That's not too bad, but it's fair to say the end of the cash runway is in sight, unless cash burn reduces drastically. The image below shows how its cash balance has been changing over the last few years.

How Well Is Innoviz Technologies Growing?
It was fairly positive to see that Innoviz Technologies reduced its cash burn by 21% during the last year. And considering that its operating revenue gained 46% during that period, that's great to see. It seems to be growing nicely. Clearly, however, the crucial factor is whether the company will grow its business going forward. So you might want to take a peek at how much the company is expected to grow in the next few years.
How Easily Can Innoviz Technologies Raise Cash?
While Innoviz Technologies seems to be in a fairly good position, it's still worth considering how easily it could raise more cash, even just to fuel faster growth. Issuing new shares, or taking on debt, are the most common ways for a listed company to raise more money for its business. Many companies end up issuing new shares to fund future growth. By comparing a company's annual cash burn to its total market capitalisation, we can estimate roughly how many shares it would have to issue in order to run the company for another year (at the same burn rate).
Innoviz Technologies has a market capitalisation of US$250m and burnt through US$61m last year, which is 24% of the company's market value. That's fairly notable cash burn, so if the company had to sell shares to cover the cost of another year's operations, shareholders would suffer some costly dilution.
So, Should We Worry About Innoviz Technologies' Cash Burn?
On this analysis of Innoviz Technologies' cash burn, we think its revenue growth was reassuring, while its cash burn relative to its market cap has us a bit worried. While we're the kind of investors who are always a bit concerned about the risks involved with cash burning companies, the metrics we have discussed in this article leave us relatively comfortable about Innoviz Technologies' situation. Taking an in-depth view of risks, we've identified 3 warning signs for Innoviz Technologies that you should be aware of before investing.
