Blend Labs, Inc. (NYSE:BLND) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 31% gain in the last month alone. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 30%.

Although its price has surged higher, Blend Labs may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2.4x, since almost half of all companies in the Software industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 4.4x and even P/S higher than 11x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Has Blend Labs Performed Recently?

While the industry has experienced revenue growth lately, Blend Labs' revenue has gone into reverse gear, which is not great. It seems that many are expecting the poor revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Keen to find out how analysts think Blend Labs' future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

How Is Blend Labs' Revenue Growth Trending?

Blend Labs' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered a frustrating 40% decrease to the company's top line. Even so, admirably revenue has lifted 70% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would definitely welcome the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the six analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 5.7% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 15% growth forecast for the broader industry.

In light of this, it's understandable that Blend Labs' P/S sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently many shareholders weren't comfortable holding on while the company is potentially eyeing a less prosperous future.

What Does Blend Labs' P/S Mean For Investors?

Blend Labs' stock price has surged recently, but its but its P/S still remains modest. Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-sales ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.

As we suspected, our examination of Blend Labs' analyst forecasts revealed that its inferior revenue outlook is contributing to its low P/S. Shareholders' pessimism on the revenue prospects for the company seems to be the main contributor to the depressed P/S. It's hard to see the share price rising strongly in the near future under these circumstances.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for Blend Labs you should know about.
