How Many SPS Commerce, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPSC) Shares Have Insiders Sold, In The Last Year?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in SPS Commerce, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPSC).
What Is Insider Buying?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.
We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

SPS Commerce Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The President, Archie Black, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$855k worth of shares at a price of US$54.24 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$57.04). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 15% of Archie Black's holding. Archie Black was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 0.8% of SPS Commerce shares, worth about US$15m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
