Strategy (MSTR) Is Down 13.1% After Equity-Funded Bitcoin Buying Spree - Has The Bull Case Changed?

Simply Wall St
  • In recent days, Strategy Inc disclosed that it bought 10,645 Bitcoin for about US$980.3 million, lifting its holdings to 671,268 BTC, largely financed through common and preferred stock issuance.
  • This aggressive accumulation is sharpening debate over Strategy’s identity as either a Bitcoin treasury vehicle or a software and services operating company, with index providers scrutinising its eligibility.
  • We’ll now examine how this equity-funded Bitcoin buying spree, and the resulting concerns about shareholder dilution, shape Strategy’s investment narrative.

What Is Strategy's Investment Narrative?

To own Strategy today, you have to buy into two stories at once: a leveraged Bitcoin proxy and a software company trying to build a real AI data business around Mosaic. The latest US$980.3 million, equity-funded Bitcoin purchase reinforces the first identity, tightening the stock’s correlation with BTC and keeping dilution and index-eligibility at the center of the short term narrative. By contrast, the new HCLTech partnership speaks directly to the second identity, potentially improving Mosaic’s commercial reach and giving more substance to earnings forecasts that already look strong on paper. For now, however, the share price slide and focus on Bitcoin held per share suggest the Mosaic news is a secondary catalyst, not a dominant one, while dilution, index risk and 2028 bond redemptions remain front of mind.

Yet the biggest concern some shareholders are watching is not Mosaic’s adoption at all.

The valuation report we've compiled suggests that Strategy's current price could be quite moderate.
