One Karooooo Insider Has Reduced Their Stake

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Karooooo Ltd.'s (NASDAQ:KARO ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Karooooo Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Founder, Isaias Jose Calisto, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$75m worth of shares at a price of US$50.00 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$45.04. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Isaias Jose Calisto was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Karooooo insiders own about US$955m worth of shares (which is 69% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Karooooo Insiders?
