One thing we could say about the analysts on Entrada Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRDA) - they aren't optimistic, having just made a major negative revision to their near-term (statutory) forecasts for the organization. Revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts were both revised downwards, with the analysts seeing grey clouds on the horizon. At US$12.41, shares are up 5.5% in the past 7 days. Investors could be forgiven for changing their mind on the business following the downgrade; but it's not clear if the revised forecasts will lead to selling activity.

Following the latest downgrade, the four analysts covering Entrada Therapeutics provided consensus estimates of US$45m revenue in 2024, which would reflect a concerning 65% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Losses are supposed to balloon 1,411% to US$3.01 per share. Yet before this consensus update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$58m and losses of US$2.10 per share in 2024. Ergo, there's been a clear change in sentiment, with the analysts administering a notable cut to this year's revenue estimates, while at the same time increasing their loss per share forecasts.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 65% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2024. That is a notable change from historical growth of 147% over the last three years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 17% annually for the foreseeable future. It's pretty clear that Entrada Therapeutics' revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Regrettably, they also downgraded their revenue estimates, and the latest forecasts imply the business will grow sales slower than the wider market. We wouldn't be surprised to find shareholders feeling a bit shell-shocked, after these downgrades. It looks like analysts have become a lot more bearish on Entrada Therapeutics, and their negativity could be grounds for caution.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have estimates - from multiple Entrada Therapeutics analysts - going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
