Insider Buyers Lose Additional US$78k As Athira Pharma Dips To US$21m
Insiders who bought US$100.1k worth of Athira Pharma, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:ATHA) stock at an average buy price of US$2.36 over the last year may be disappointed by the recent 10% decrease in the stock. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth US$22.5k, which is not great.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Athira Pharma
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Chairwoman of the Board Kelly Romano bought US$100k worth of shares at a price of US$2.42 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$0.53. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Kelly Romano was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. From our data, it seems that Athira Pharma insiders own 8.5% of the company, worth about US$1.8m. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
So What Does This Data Suggest About Athira Pharma Insiders?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Athira Pharma shares in the last quarter. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. The transactions are fine but it'd be more encouraging if Athira Pharma insiders bought more shares in the company.
