How Many Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:LYV) Shares Have Insiders Sold, In The Last Year?
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:LYV).
Do Insider Transactions Matter?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Live Nation Entertainment
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, Ariel Emanuel, for US$4.2m worth of shares, at about US$58.26 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$73.48). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was 97% of Ariel Emanuel's stake.
In the last twelve months insiders purchased 32.90k shares for US$1.3m. But insiders sold 74.39k shares worth US$4.3m. Insider Ownership of Live Nation Entertainment
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Live Nation Entertainment insiders own about US$323m worth of shares (which is 2.1% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
