Viewbix Inc. (NASDAQ:VBIX) May Have Run Too Fast Too Soon With Recent 25% Price Plummet
To the annoyance of some shareholders, Viewbix Inc. (NASDAQ:VBIX) shares are down a considerable 25% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. For any long-term shareholders, the last month ends a year to forget by locking in a 75% share price decline.
Although its price has dipped substantially, when almost half of the companies in the United States' Media industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 1x, you may still consider Viewbix as a stock probably not worth researching with its 1.5x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

How Viewbix Has Been Performing
For example, consider that Viewbix's financial performance has been poor lately as its revenue has been in decline. Perhaps the market believes the company can do enough to outperform the rest of the industry in the near future, which is keeping the P/S ratio high. If not, then existing shareholders may be quite nervous about the viability of the share price.

Viewbix's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver solid growth, and importantly, perform better than the industry.
Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 72%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 87% overall. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been undesirable for the company.
In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 4.4% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.
With this information, we find it concerning that Viewbix is trading at a P/S higher than the industry. Apparently many investors in the company are way more bullish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock at any price. There's a very good chance existing shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the recent negative growth rates.
What Does Viewbix's P/S Mean For Investors?
Despite the recent share price weakness, Viewbix's P/S remains higher than most other companies in the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
We've established that Viewbix currently trades on a much higher than expected P/S since its recent revenues have been in decline over the medium-term. When we see revenue heading backwards and underperforming the industry forecasts, we feel the possibility of the share price declining is very real, bringing the P/S back into the realm of reasonability. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it will place shareholders' investments at significant risk and potential investors in danger of paying an excessive premium.
