Insiders At EverQuote Sold US$1.3m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Many EverQuote, Inc. (NASDAQ:EVER) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EverQuote
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Co-Founder & Chairman, David Blundin, for US$534k worth of shares, at about US$29.61 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$27.80. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
In the last year EverQuote insiders didn't buy any company stock. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership Of EverQuote
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that EverQuote insiders own 3.6% of the company, worth about US$36m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
What Might The Insider Transactions At EverQuote Tell Us?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by EverQuote insiders. But it's good to see that insiders own shares in the company. If you are like me, you may want to think about whether this company will grow or shrink.
