Multiple insiders secured a larger position in Sonoco Products Company (NYSE:SON) shares over the last 12 months. This is reassuring as this suggests that insiders have increased optimism about the company's prospects.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Sonoco Products Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The President Robert Coker made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$930k worth of shares at a price of US$46.48 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is US$46.65. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the Sonoco Products insiders decided to buy shares at close to current prices.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 74.72k shares for US$3.3m. On the other hand they divested 13.66k shares, for US$699k. Overall, Sonoco Products insiders were net buyers during the last year. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below.
