Are Everest Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It's said that there's no smoke without fire. For investors, insider buying is often the smoke that indicates which stocks could set the market alight. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. However, insiders are sometimes wrong, and we don't know the exact thinking behind their acquisitions.
We do note that, in the last year, insiders sold US$548k worth of shares. But that's far less than the US$2.4m insiders spent purchasing stock. This bodes well for Everest Group as it highlights the fact that those who are important to the company having a lot of faith in its future. It is also worth noting that it was Independent Director William Galtney who made the biggest single purchase, worth US$1.0m, paying US$349 per share.
On top of the insider buying, it's good to see that Everest Group insiders have a valuable investment in the business. We note that their impressive stake in the company is worth US$219m. This suggests that leadership will be very mindful of shareholders' interests when making decisions!
Shareholders have more to smile about than just insiders adding more shares to their already sizeable holdings. The cherry on top is that the CEO, Jim Williamson is paid comparatively modestly to CEOs at similar sized companies. For companies with market capitalisations over US$8.0b, like Everest Group, the median CEO pay is around US$13m.
The Everest Group CEO received total compensation of just US$3.9m in the year to December 2023. That's clearly well below average, so at a glance that arrangement seems generous to shareholders and points to a modest remuneration culture. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when it's reasonable, that gives a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of a culture of integrity, in a broader sense.
