Vivos Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:VVOS) Analysts Are More Bearish Than They Used To Be
One thing we could say about the analysts on Vivos Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:VVOS) - they aren't optimistic, having just made a major negative revision to their near-term (statutory) forecasts for the organization. Revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts were both revised downwards, with analysts seeing grey clouds on the horizon.
Following the latest downgrade, the two analysts covering Vivos Therapeutics provided consensus estimates of US$16m revenue in 2022, which would reflect a small 3.9% decline on its sales over the past 12 months. Losses are expected to increase slightly, to US$1.06 per share. Yet prior to the latest estimates, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$22m and losses of US$0.89 per share in 2022. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.

The consensus price target fell 50% to US$4.50, with the analysts clearly concerned about the company following the weaker revenue and earnings outlook. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. The most optimistic Vivos Therapeutics analyst has a price target of US$8.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$5.00. This is a fairly broad spread of estimates, suggesting that the analysts are forecasting a wide range of possible outcomes for the business.
Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. We would highlight that sales are expected to reverse, with a forecast 5.1% annualised revenue decline to the end of 2022. That is a notable change from historical growth of 27% over the last year. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 7.1% annually for the foreseeable future. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Vivos Therapeutics is expected to lag the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Unfortunately analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that Vivos Therapeutics' revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. With a serious cut to this year's expectations and a falling price target, we wouldn't be surprised if investors were becoming wary of Vivos Therapeutics.
Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2024, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
