When you buy shares in a company, there is always a risk that the price drops to zero. On the other hand, if you find a high quality business to buy (at the right price) you can more than double your money! For example, the InMode Ltd. (NASDAQ:INMD) share price has soared 194% return in just a single year. On top of that, the share price is up 32% in about a quarter. Note that businesses generally develop over the long term, so the returns over the last year might not reflect a long term trend.

While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

InMode was able to grow EPS by 38% in the last twelve months. The share price gain of 194% certainly outpaced the EPS growth. So it's fair to assume the market has a higher opinion of the business than it a year ago.

We're pleased to report that the CEO is remunerated more modestly than most CEOs at similarly capitalized companies. But while CEO remuneration is always worth checking, the really important question is whether the company can grow earnings going forward. A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that InMode shareholders have gained 194% over the last year. The more recent returns haven't been as impressive as the longer term returns, coming in at just 32%. Having said that, we doubt shareholders would be concerned. It seems the market is simply waiting on more information, because if the business delivers so will the share price (eventually). I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too.
