Insiders who bought Accuray Incorporated (NASDAQ:ARAY) stock in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The company's market value increased by US$28m as a result of the stock's 16% gain over the same period. In other words, the original US$156.0k purchase is now worth US$207.0k.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Accuray Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Chairman of the Board Joseph Whitters made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$156k worth of shares at a price of US$1.58 each. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$2.07), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.
