With EPS Growth And More, PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) Makes An Interesting Case
Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP). Now this is not to say that the company presents the best investment opportunity around, but profitability is a key component to success in business.

How Quickly Is PepsiCo Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price should eventually follow. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. We can see that in the last three years PepsiCo grew its EPS by 7.4% per year. This may not be setting the world alight, but it does show that EPS is on the upwards trend.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. EBIT margins for PepsiCo remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 8.6% to US$86b. That's encouraging news for the company!

Since PepsiCo has a market capitalisation of US$249b, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a large percentage of shares. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. We note that their impressive stake in the company is worth US$410m. We note that this amounts to 0.2% of the company, which may be small owing to the sheer size of PepsiCo but it's still worth mentioning.
