What Does The Institutional Ownership Tell Us About Mama's Creations?

Institutions typically measure themselves against a benchmark when reporting to their own investors, so they often become more enthusiastic about a stock once it's included in a major index. We would expect most companies to have some institutions on the register, especially if they are growing.

We can see that Mama's Creations does have institutional investors; and they hold a good portion of the company's stock. This implies the analysts working for those institutions have looked at the stock and they like it. But just like anyone else, they could be wrong. It is not uncommon to see a big share price drop if two large institutional investors try to sell out of a stock at the same time. Investors should note that institutions actually own more than half the company, so they can collectively wield significant power. Mama's Creations is not owned by hedge funds. The company's largest shareholder is Wasatch Advisors LP, with ownership of 11%. For context, the second largest shareholder holds about 4.6% of the shares outstanding, followed by an ownership of 4.5% by the third-largest shareholder. Furthermore, CEO Adam Michaels is the owner of 0.7% of the company's shares.

Looking at the shareholder registry, we can see that 50% of the ownership is controlled by the top 19 shareholders, meaning that no single shareholder has a majority interest in the ownership.

Insider Ownership Of Mama's Creations

The definition of company insiders can be subjective and does vary between jurisdictions. Our data reflects individual insiders, capturing board members at the very least. The company management answer to the board and the latter should represent the interests of shareholders. Notably, sometimes top-level managers are on the board themselves.

I generally consider insider ownership to be a good thing. However, on some occasions it makes it more difficult for other shareholders to hold the board accountable for decisions.

Our most recent data indicates that insiders own a reasonable proportion of Mama's Creations, Inc.. Insiders have a US$31m stake in this US$300m business. We would say this shows alignment with shareholders, but it is worth noting that the company is still quite small; some insiders may have founded the business.
