Range Resources CEO, President & Director Dennis Degner Sells 61% Of Holding
We wouldn't blame Range Resources Corporation (NYSE:RRC) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Dennis Degner, the CEO, President & Director recently netted about US$1.4m selling shares at an average price of US$40.42. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 61% of their entire holding.
Range Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive VP & CFO, Mark Scucchi, sold US$2.4m worth of shares at a price of US$40.15 per share. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$40.12. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Range Resources insiders own about US$97m worth of shares. That equates to 1.0% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Zooming out, the longer term picture doesn't give us much comfort.
