Antero Resources Insiders Sold US$4.0m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy
In the last year, many Antero Resources Corporation (NYSE:AR) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Antero Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Senior VP of Finance & CFO, Michael Kennedy, for US$3.2m worth of shares, at about US$21.07 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$30.18. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 17% of Michael Kennedy's stake.

Does Antero Resources Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Antero Resources insiders own about US$470m worth of shares (which is 5.1% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
