Insiders At Voya Financial Sold US$5.1m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
In the last year, many Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE:VOYA) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Voya Financial
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Rodney Martin, sold US$5.1m worth of shares at a price of US$75.25 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$70.39. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Voya Financial insiders own about US$28m worth of shares. That equates to 0.4% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Voya Financial Tell Us?
It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Voya Financial shares in the last quarter. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Voya Financial insiders.
