Compass Diversified's (NYSE:CODI) Dividend Will Be $0.25
The board of Compass Diversified (NYSE:CODI) has announced that it will pay a dividend on the 27th of April, with investors receiving $0.25 per share. Based on this payment, the dividend yield on the company's stock will be 5.4%, which is an attractive boost to shareholder returns.

Compass Diversified's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
If the payments aren't sustainable, a high yield for a few years won't matter that much. Even though Compass Diversified is not generating a profit, it is still paying a dividend. Along with this, it is also not generating free cash flows, which raises concerns about the sustainability of the dividend.
According to analysts, EPS should be several times higher next year. If the dividend extends its recent trend, estimates say the dividend could reach 62%, which we would be comfortable to see continuing.
Dividend Volatility
While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of $1.44 in 2013 to the most recent total annual payment of $1.00. The dividend has shrunk at around 3.6% a year during that period. Generally, we don't like to see a dividend that has been declining over time as this can degrade shareholders' returns and indicate that the company may be running into problems.
We Could See Compass Diversified's Dividend Growing
Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. We are encouraged to see that Compass Diversified has grown earnings per share at 5.3% per year over the past five years. It's not great that the company is not turning a profit, but the decent growth in recent years is certainly a positive sign. If the company can become profitable soon, continuing on this trajectory would bode well for the future of the dividend.
Compass Diversified's Dividend Doesn't Look Sustainable
Overall, we don't think this company makes a great dividend stock, even though the dividend wasn't cut this year. The payments are bit high to be considered sustainable, and the track record isn't the best. We don't think Compass Diversified is a great stock to add to your portfolio if income is your focus.
Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one.
