PayPal Holdings Insider Lowered Holding By 55% During Last Year \
Looking at PayPal Holdings, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:PYPL ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At PayPal Holdings
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive Vice President of Global Sales, Peggy Alford, for US$2.1m worth of shares, at about US$97.82 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$60.22. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. Peggy Alford was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that PayPal Holdings insiders own 0.1% of the company, worth about US$95m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Do The PayPal Holdings Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no PayPal Holdings insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by PayPal Holdings insiders. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
