CME Group (CME) Rolls Out New Futures Products, Does The Valuation Still Look Cheap?

Dividend affirmation and product launches put CME Group in focus

CME Group (CME) has come back into focus after affirming a third quarter dividend of $1.30 per share and rolling out a series of smaller sized futures products across equity index and sports related benchmarks.

The newly declared dividend, payable on 25 September 2026 to shareholders of record on 9 September, may interest readers who track the stock for income as well as for exposure to global derivatives markets.

See our latest analysis for CME Group.

CME Group shares now trade at US$264.32, with a 1 month share price return of 9.79% contrasting with a 1 year total shareholder return that is slightly down 2.26%. The 5 year total shareholder return of 56.49% points to momentum that has built over a longer horizon as recent product launches and volume records shape how investors view the company’s growth prospects and risk profile.

After a near 10% move in a month and a fresh dividend confirmation, CME Group now asks you to weigh a richer price tag against an active product pipeline and steady earnings power. Does that balance still reward new buyers?

Most Popular Narrative: 6.4% Undervalued

Compared with CME Group's last close at $264.32, the most followed narrative sees fair value closer to $282.36 and frames that gap through earnings power and margins over the next few years.

New product innovations (e.g., Micro contracts, expansion into crypto, FX Spot+), ongoing tech-driven operating efficiencies (cloud migration and tokenization initiatives), and strengthening of strategic partnerships (such as the long-term NASDAQ index license extension and Google Cloud collaboration) are enhancing operating leverage and EBITDA/net margin performance.

If you want to understand why this narrative still points above today’s price, it leans on steady revenue expansion, firm margins, and a richer future earnings multiple. You may be curious which assumptions really carry that valuation story.

Result: Fair Value of $282.36 (UNDERVALUED)

Have a read of the narrative in full and understand what's behind the forecasts.

However, CME Group’s story could shift quickly if competition in key contracts intensifies, or if lower market volatility drags on trading volumes and fee revenue.

Another View: CME Group Through a Cash Flow Lens

The analyst narrative for CME Group leans on earnings power and a future P/E of 27.3x, yet the Simply Wall St DCF model currently points to a value of about $248.79 per share, which is below the latest price of $264.32. That cash flow view suggests the stock screens as expensive rather than 6.4% undervalued. Which framework do you find more convincing for your own assumptions on growth, margins, and discount rates?

Look into how the SWS DCF model arrives at its fair value.

Gold miners still look inexpensive because the market thinks we're near the top of the cycle. Given what's happening to the dollar, I'm not so sure.

Between 2003 and 2011, gold nearly went 5x. Dollar went weak too. The gold companies did bad. It is worth noting that between 2003 and 2011, there was 2008! I will leave it your inference and research.
