Possible Bearish Signals With Brinker International Insiders Disposing Stock

The fact that multiple Brinker International, Inc. (NYSE:EAT) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Brinker International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Joseph Taylor, for US$658k worth of shares, at about US$41.21 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$117, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 19% of Joseph Taylor's holding.
