Numerous Perdoceo Education Insiders Sold Stock: Not A Positive Omen
Perdoceo Education Corporation (NASDAQ:PRDO) shareholders may have reason to be concerned, as several insiders sold their shares over the past year. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Perdoceo Education Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The Senior VP & Chief Information Officer, David Czeszewski, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$278k worth of shares at a price of US$12.01 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$18.21. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 42% of David Czeszewski's holding.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Perdoceo Education insiders own about US$13m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Perdoceo Education Tell Us?
The fact that there have been no Perdoceo Education insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Perdoceo Education insiders. But we do like the fact that insiders own a fair chunk of the company. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
